Meggitt produces a full line of pumps, including positive
displacement gear and vane types, and centrifugal flow. The pumps are typically
used to lubricate or scavenge engines, or to produce hydraulic power or charge
hydraulic systems. A variety of bearing configurations are employed, from fluid
film to ball bearings depending on the application requirements. Pump drive may
be engine driven, or by integral electric motor, AC or DC.
Many of the pumps with integral motors are designed as a
“wet motor” configuration, where the working fluid circulates through the motor
cavity. This configuration eliminates the need for using dynamic shaft seals,
thus enhancing reliability. Meggitt has also developed a “canning” process for
integral wet pump motors, whereby the pump can operate with low dielectric
fluids. Meggitt can design a pump for virtually any ground vehicle application.
